A Brief History

As an on campus interest group at the University of California Santa Cruz, the men that set the foundation for what later became Sigma Phi Zeta were originally known as “Nuevos Hermanos” ( New Brothers ). These men took a specific stand against the traditional hazing approach of building brotherhood through emotional/physical abuse. Breaking someone down emotionally/physically in order to build brotherhood was simply something they did not believe in and wholeheartedly objected to. These group of young men set out to prove that true Brotherhood could be attained through more positive/effective means and in the Spring of 2003 decided to make their commitment official by founding what we now know as Sigma Zeta Fraternity.
